Up bright and early, to start the track session at 9am. After a quick, low geared warm up I was feeling SHIT.
Legs had really stiffened up from my lack of riding yesterday, so first few efforts were tough.
Started with two, 100m jumps with myself and Martyn alternation lead outs. It was then onto my targeted event for the European Championships - flying 200m.
I'm not naturally a sprinter, and I don't train as a sprinter. However, I will be riding up against the likes of Chris Hoy next week in Poland. With only 1 place available to ride the omnium, only 2 riders in the Irish Elite Team (no team pursuit) and Martyn flying, I was never likely to be first choice.
My target time for Poland is 10.8 seconds, which'll secure me funding for the whole of 2011. Today I rode race gear and race wheels, so I couldn't afford to be too far away from my 10.8 benchmark.
First go I hit 11.1, which is quick enough, but not close enough to the target time. Second go, I hit 10.9 and with the lack of aero helmet, over shoes and sufficent rest, I think if everything goes to plan I SHOULD be able to achieve my goal.
The rest of the session consisted of a standing kilo and a motor paced warm down.
After a quick lunch we were back in kit and on the bikes, with Martyn doing his savage computrainer workout and me on the rollers doing a sprint session.
Finished up the day with some light gym work.
1 out of 3 training days done before I leave for Poland and everything's looking good.
Hectic day planned tomorrow. Need to be on the bikes at the track at 8am in the morning. I thought this was bad enough in itself, but before this we have to; have breakfast, pack everything up, drag cases, bike and bike bags down the road to a new hotel and then cycling the HORRIBLE 2 miles down to the track. So sleep is definately needed.
Ciao
